In April of 2009 we found out that we were expecting a baby. We were so excited for this new addition to our family. During our ultrasound to find out the gender of the baby they had noticed something abnormal on the ultrasound. We waited for almost two weeks and then found out the news that our baby had a cyst. They had scheduled a level two ultrasound for us. We eventually found out that she had hydrocephalus and agenesis of the corpus collosum. When you are pregnant you only think of happy times with your baby.

We were constantly thinking of the well being of our daughter and to what extent this would play in her life. I was constantly monitored in the last few weeks of pregnancy. I had weekly nsts and ultrasounds. The neurosurgeon had planned to send Allison immediately from Abbott hospital to Childrens for observation and possible shunt placement surgery.

While touring the NICU I was overwhelmed with sadness of what was in our future there. My due date was December 30th 2009. Allison was born on December 14th our bundle of joy arrived earlier than expected. She did such a great job she was allowed to stay in the special care nursery at Abbott. We took her home after only 4 days. Allison was visited by ecfe and eventually referred to special education services through the school district. She had a few seizures in the summer and the neurologist reccomended she have an MRI.

The MRI was reviewed by the neurosurgeon and he wanted her to have a vp shunt put in. Allison was a trooper and her shunt surgery went great. The nurses loved her especially with her constant smiles she gave them. We had one scare right after surgery with fluid building up around the site but the shunt was still working properly. Recently Allison received a diagnosis of Oral Facial Digital Syndrome Type 1.

Through all of the dr appts and the surgery she has been great.

She is our little Angel from God. We are so lucky to be her parents and can't wait to see everything she achieves.
