Honoring: Dr. David Shafron; Phoenix Children's Hospital

Hi! My name is Blake Fallis. I want to tell you a little about my own super hero. His name is Dr. David Shafron of Phoenix Children's Hospital.

He is not only my hero becasue he has saved my life twice this year, once in April, which was a planned life saving and a second time just last week, which was an emergency, and he saved it again! Not only has he saved my life, but he has a way with my mom. Oh boy! my mom is neurotic! I think she stresses too much about me, but I guess she loves me so much. But he always makes her stop crying and returns her e-mails or phone calls on the same day!!! Yup, the same day!

Not only is he my life saver and my hero, but he actually calls my house out of the blue to check on me! WOW! We live in Colorado and he lives in Arizona! I must be a special boy to have my own hero call and check on me, it's always out of the blue too! He even knows me by name (his staff knows me as "that cute blonde boy"), because when he calls he says "Is this Blake's mom?" One time he called just because he was looking at a place mat of the United States and saw Colorado, and he thought of me, then he called my house!!!

My hero, Dr. Shafee, that's how I say his name but it's really Dr. Sharfon. He makes me feel comfortable, I really don't like Doctors, or nurses because they are always sticking me with these things called needles, but Dr. Shafee gives me what we call nuks! We make fists and slam them together! He even tought me how to blow it up, after we slam fists, we just opening our hands and making some noise..like phhhgewwwwww!! I think it's really cool. Each time we do it I laugh!!

I love Dr. Shafee! I think he's the best in the west, and he thinks I'm cute too! And both times he saved my life, my head didn't hurt anymore. That's my favorite thing.

I visit him a lot, and I like my visits, he tell my parents about my progress. He even meet my sisters! They tried to steal my thunder, but that was my three month check up after my first surgery, and he could hear me talking, so no thunder was stolen, I talked away! Boy was he impressed!!

Well, one last thing, after my last surgery, he shaved off part of my mow-hawk, well he is generous, he offered to teach me how he does his hair, comb over style! My mom and dad laughed really hard!

Well, I think Dr. Shafee should be nominated for Heroes of Hydrocephalus, because he is Superman, Spiderman, The Hulk, Wolverine, and Batman all in one. That's one big hero! But the ONE thing he means to me the most is, life. He helps me live, and I love my life!

Thanks I can't wait till he wins because he really is my hero... I could go on all day about Dr. Shafee!!

Thanks for reading, Blake Fallis aka "Hydro"
