Our son Cameron Briggs Dominick was born in 2006 two months premature with a host of medical conditions, including Hydrocepahlus. We learned of the many issues Cameron would face two weeks prior to his birth. It was from that moment that the Neurosurgery team at Children's Memorial Hospital became an important part of our life, with one of the neuurosurgeons visiting with me on bed rest prior to delivery, Dr. Tord Alden. He took the time to explain in detail the brain surgery our son would need.
Cameron underwent two brain surgeries before he was 3 months old, with the second one placing a shunt.
From there Dr. Bowman became his primary neurosurgeon and she is one of our most trusted advisors, she feels like a family member to us. Just last week she left a message at home to personally check on Cameron after a recent hospitalization. Dr. Bowman takes the time to explain every surgery Cameron needs in detail, she is a mother just like me and she truly gets it.
A true testament: In June of 2007 Cameron had a spinal surgery, where we let his prized "lovie" stuffed dog head into the OR with him. Once out of surgery we couldn't find the dog anywhere, we were all frantic.
Dr. Bowman helped the hospital team search through the laundry, she scoured the hospital floors and 30 minutes later showed up with "neigh neigh" sealed in a plastic bag.
Dr. Bowman is our hero for saving Cameron's life on many occasions, most recently September 2010, but also for having a vested in our family beyond the OR.
