Honoring: Dr. Mark Dias; Penn State Hershey Medical Center

Hello, My name is Drake Mantheiy. I am four years old. I have Hydrocephalus due to a Chiari Malformation 1. I have endured so much in my young life. I have to say first I wouldn't be here today if I didn't have Dr. Mark Dias at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. I began seeing him in September 2008. I transfered from a huge hospital to Hershey Medical Center.

I went for my first revision in Febuary 2009. Within one week I was back for symptoms of vomitting, irritabilty, and sleepiness. Clearly everything that seemed Hydrocephalus related. The Neuro Team ruled out the shunt, but they never gave up. They decided to CT my hole body. They found out that I had Hydrourternyphosis. Which is basically Hydrocephalus in the kidneys. My right upper pole kidney wasn't functioning.

They were suprised that I hadn't been poisoned from urine backing up into my body. They rushed me to surgery to put in a tube in my kidney. That lead to 5 surgeries to repair my urters and kidney. If I didn't have Dr. Mark Dias and all the Pediatric Neurosurgery Team I don't know if I would be here today. Dr. Dias always says, "I WILL NEVER GIVE UP!"
