Honoring: Dr. Michael Muhlbauer; LeBonheur Children's Hospital

Before the birth of our daughter, Nola Gracyn Bawcum, we met with a neurosurgeon by the name of Dr. Michael Muhlbauer. He had been highly recommended and the first thing he said completely broke the ice and put us all at ease. As all of you are aware, when you are awaiting the birth of your child with hydrocephalus you are very tense!

Nola was born on October 9, 2007. Days after her birth, she was taken to LeBonheur Children's Hospital to have her first shunt placement. She has had shunt revisions at 10 months old and 20 months old. Both of these revisions have been due to her brain growth clogging the tubing- Which Dr. Muhlbauer reminded us "was a good thing." Dr. Muhlbauer makes it a point to talk to Nola. He asks her questions; not that she can answer all of them but he talks to her which is important to us. He takes the time which means so much to our family.

Dr. Muhlbauer has been a great throughout our entire journey. When Nola was born she was 25% brain and 75% fluid, thanks to the phenomenal work of Dr. Muhlbauer-at Nola's last CT scan, she was 99% brain! Dr. Muhlbauer said "You can't get much better than that!"
