Honoring: Dr. Warren Ishida, Pediatrics Neurosurgeon at Tripler Army Medical Center & Priscilla Rodriguez, Physcian Assistant

I would like to nominate Dr. Warren Ishida- Pediatrics Neurosurgeon who practices at Tripler Army Medical Center and his assistant Priscilla Rodriguez, on behalf of my nephew Christian Tremaine and my family.

Dr. Warren Ishida was a godsend with his expertise during Christian's latest shunt failure. During Christian's recent medical struggle with shunt failure, he showed signs of throwing up and appearing lethargic. My sister took him to the hospital, and after taking several cat scans it was ruled that his shunt was infected. He was than medevaced to Oahu, but instead of Kapiolani Medical Center accepting him he was flown to Tripler Army Medical Center. At that time my sister found out that Dr. Michon Morita was out of the country. With no other Dr. in Hawaii to help Christian, Dr. Warren Ishida accepted him. During his stay at Tripler, Christian underwent a couple brain surgeries, neck surgery, and another in his stomach. Dr. Ishida's care and expertise made it easier for my sister.

He was very thorough in everything he did, and always communicated with her during Christian's time there. He always made sure the nursing staff knew how critical it was for Chrisitian to get the optimal care because he had place an exterior shunt on him. Christian and my sister remained at Tripler Army medical center for about two weeks and they both were really happy with the care given by Dr. Ishida and his Assistant Priscilla Rodriguez. He remained at tripler in this condition until Dr. Morita returned from his vacation.

Priscilla Rodriguez also is another Hero of Hydrocephalus to be recognized. I would like to nominate her as well for her diligence and advocate of Christians care while at Tripler. She always stressed her job was the care for her patient, and it showed in everything she did as Dr. Ishida's assistant. She advocated for the best care when Christian had the exterior shunt placement. She made sure the nursing staff knew everything they needed to know no matter how many times they had to adjust the levels of the exterior shunt. It was relieving for us to know, christian wouldn' t be in so much pain because of her. She truly is a Hero of Hydrocephalus because of the knowledge and expertise she has. I also spoke with her if she would ever help us with awareness if we did something on the big island and she was on board to do whatever for Hydrocephalus.

When i visited Christian during his time at Tripler it moved me to know this was his only option and Doctor that could help him. It also opened my eyes to know how critical it was to get involved to bring more awareness to his condition of Hydrocephalus. I can truly say having both of these professionals made it easier to have Christian cared for at this facility.
